kim & chris | port moody engagement | vancouver wedding photographer

Here in Vancouver, we don’t really get winters.  We get rain & grey – which can make for some great weather for portraits – but can also get little gloomy by the time January rolls around.  When I originally spoke with Kim & Chris about booking their engagement session, I expected to have those familiar wet conditions.  As luck would have it though, a day or two before we were scheduled to head out, Mother Nature came through with the most beautiful snowfall… we were absolutely pumped!  Throw in a little early evening sunshine during our session, and I was one happy shooter :)

Kim & Chris are such an adorable couple… they have an ease together that is just so natural and sweet.  They decided that the lovely Rocky Point Park in Port Moody would be the perfect place for their engagement portraits – close to home, and a frequent destination for their dog walking jaunts.  So off we ventured into the snow… it may have been chilly out, but I think their love warms up these photos quite nicely ;)  So looking forward to your wedding in just a few weeks’ time!

a few 2011 faves | vancouver wedding photographer

Just a little 2011 wrap up…  better late than never, right?!  This past year I had the good fortune to work with some amazing clients, and I am so thankful to all of you for allowing me into your lives during your most important moments.  It truly is an honour to capture these images for you.  Although they may change tomorrow (it’s so hard to choose!), here are a few of my favourite shots from last year. :)

These first few are from an editorial session in the Las Vegas desert – a collaboration between myself, images by bethany, tetrik (hairpieces), vouture clothing co., megan mulligan (makeup), and shaun sanders (hair):

Danielle & Dustin’s adorable Langley engagement session:

The elegant wedding of Rennae & Allan, second shot for images by bethany:

A Mt. Seymour engagement session with Heather & Ross:

These 2 little guys were a delight to hang out with during a family session at Whytecliff Park:

Reshma & Saalman’s stormy May wedding, again for images by bethany:

Just one frame from an outdoor maternity session with Nicky:

It was incredibly hard to pick my faves from this beautiful morning – Danielle & Dustin’s wedding day:

The last wedding for images by bethany of the season, Pia & Justin’s gorgeous DIY affair:

Alicia & Shaugn’s practically supernatural engagement session:

Meghan & Mark’s lovely intimate UBC rose garden wedding:

An evening maternity session with Nonie & Chris (welcome little Wyatt!!):

The hottest day of the year (in more ways than one!) – Heather & Ross’ wedding:

Alicia & Shaugn’s beautiful backyard wedding in Victoria:

A chilly October engagement session with Elizabeth & Guillermo:

Dhana’s girls in Stanley Park:

A definite fave, Adelaide & her family in Squamish:

Jonathan & his happy parents – so great to meet you three!:

And last but not least, Isabel & the joy she brings:

Thanks again to my awesome clients, and all the best for 2012 :)

baby noah & loving fam | victoria family photographer

There are few words to express how much I love this little growing family.  Jen has been a constant in my life since the age of 7, and we have managed to remain close despite physical distances.  I consider myself extremely blessed to have this strong, inspiring, and goofy presence in my life, no matter where we find ourselves.

Four weeks before we created these photos, Jen & Brent welcomed a baby boy into the world- Noah.  A beautiful little brother for Thea.  Maybe the world’s most beautiful, actually.  These amazing parents somehow gathered up all the necessary travel documents, arranged for flights out of San Diego, and traveled together with their newborn & preschooler to be in Victoria for the holidays- all less than 2 weeks after Noah’s birth.  I told you Jen is inspiring!  Lucky for us they made it safely, and we were able to set aside a day for a few newborn & family photos.

Much love to you four…  so happy to spend some time with you during your visit!  xo

Ahhhhh, they are all beautiful. You are so gifted, Tegan, though having beautiful subjects has to help!

Teegy, what wonderful shots you captured of this handsome family ;) The close-up one of Thea is beautiful! And the kids in the suitcase… love it! And Jen, it looks like Mr. Noah might have brown eyes- I know tha will make you happy!
xoxo

Love, love, LOVE these photos Tegan! I feel so lucky that my family can be featured on your incredible blog. Moreover, I can’t WAIT to see the rest of the images you took; if these are anything to go by, we’re going to (continue to) be blown away. Thank you so much for being so patient and wonderful with Thea and Noah (and for making Brent and I feel so comfortable) – the pictures are stunning! <3

Ah, so lovely! Thanks Tegan for for capturing the awesomeness. I’m going to have to beg/plead/persuade Jen to give me some copies. How much we love these 4!

the gift of family | vancouver family photographer

I love gifts that elicit tears… gifts that move people, remind them of how much they are loved, bring people closer.  So when Thomas contacted me about this session for his parents & his cousins’ parents, I was thrilled to be a part of it… a gift from the younger generation to the older.  And from what I heard, this gift definitely brought on a couple of tears… such an awesome idea!

As our shoot around Lonsdale Quay unfolded, it became plain to see that these 2 families love to laugh and be in eachother’s company.  I always find it fascinating to see the resemblances between family members – can you tell who belongs to who in these photos?  Pretty clear, I think!

Thank you so much to all of you for being yourselves and bringing your love & laughter to this session… I absolutely loved creating these portraits with you!

very very very outstanding work!!!

thank you.

A sincere thanks to everyone who left a comment on my blog during the month of December!  Together we raised $27 in support of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.  2011 was my first year participating in this initiative, which was started in 2008 by Vancouver photographers Chris + Lynn, and has been continued by several other local photographers since then.  Lots of room to increase my donation amount for next year!  Your support was truly appreciated – thank you :)

Since December was a fairly quiet month around here, I also wanted to share a little bit of what I’ve been up to over the past while.  I’ve felt so grateful to be surrounded by amazing friends and family during the holidays – I hope you were able to take a few moments with the ones you love to appreciate all that we have as well.  Here’s to big holiday feasts, new babies, close friends, and lots of love.

stay tuned for a more complete 2011 wrap up, as well as exciting new things coming soon!

Love these Teeg! Especially the one of the 4 of us (well, 5 I guess)!! xoxo

Jen - January 17, 2012 - 7:15 pm

I’m usually such a teganmcmartin.com stalker, how did I miss these?? Oh right, I had no internet for half of December and January. What a wonderful series Teeg, and I love the photos at Moka House. I can’t believe that one of Nicky and I wasn’t posed! Wherever your camera goes, amazing snapshots of life seem to follow :)
